Brantford Member of the Month August 2025 - Holly Clark
Tell us about yourself!
I live in Brantford with my partner and two kids and I enjoy collecting skills and interests. I know my way around a glue gun and sewing machine, so you will find me hiding from the heat in my basement while I make a silly outfit for a friend's dog. If I do venture outside, it’s to say nice things to/water my plants or tend my beehive, which is my 2025 obsession.
What got you into crossfit?
In 2014, a friend at work was describing her workout. I remember asking "what are handstand pushups?!" At the time CrossFit was super popular so I got into the next On Ramp to see what the hype was about.
What do you like about Alchemy?
Having been a member of a few CrossFit gyms over the years, its clear that Alchemy is committed to its community of members and works hard to not only make us stronger and faster, but also happier and more connected. It's tough to build friendships as busy adults, but I would have to say that the people I got to know in class are now some really good friends and that goes way beyond what a typical gym culture has.
What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?
If I had to choose one, it would be the first time I did a basic 20" box jump. It can only happen when all the planets are in alignment I think, so the first time it happened, it was like a miracle!
What are your Crossfit goals for the future?
I would like to eventually be able to kick up into a handstand.
If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?
Heavy dumbbell snatches and the bike!
What's the biggest change you've seen in yourself since you started Crossfit?
I developed confidence to be okay with being perceived and I learned to accept failures as simply part of the process rather than a reason to stop trying.
When you're not at the gym, what's your favourite thing to do?
Dig into a new creative project or treasure hunt with dowsing rods.
What’s your favourite food spot? Doesn't matter where it is
Any vineyard with a great view, a full glass, and a snack plate.
