Hamilton Member of the Month for June 2025 - Leah Rosenthal
Tell us about yourself
I’m someone who thrives on challenge, growth, and community—whether in my career, family life, or at the gym. I’m a proud mom of two, currently pursuing my doctorate in Educational Leadership, and I live in Ancaster. Fun fact: I went to high school with both Duncan and Broder (but we won’t say who’s older). I love being active, especially through CrossFit. I believe deeply in showing up for others, whether it’s my kids, colleagues, or teammates. Life is full, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What got you into CrossFit?
I was looking for more than just a workout. I wanted a challenge, intensity, and a sense of belonging. CrossFit is humbling and constantly pushes me to grow. As much as I sweat it out, Alchemy fills my bucket.
What do you like about Alchemy?
Alchemy isn’t just a gym, it’s a community of people who genuinely show up for each other. The coaches are incredible, the programming is thoughtful, and the vibe is equal parts supportive and gritty. It’s where I start my day with the 5 a.m. crew and leave feeling stronger in every way.
What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?
Lately, it’s been the slow grind of improving my Olympic lifts—split jerks, snatches, and cleans. Not exactly Instagram glory, but those tiny, early-morning wins (fuelled by sarcasm and caffeine) feel huge. There’s something deeply satisfying about chasing precision over PRs. I also love the gym-run events like the Regatta and WODs for Wishes. You get what you give in life, and these moments connect me to the Alchemy community in meaningful, fun ways. Supporting the team and giving back are important to me.
What are your CrossFit goals for the future?
Bar muscle-ups are still the dream, but right now I’m focused on building stamina and finishing workouts strong—not just surviving them. Long term, I want to be strong and capable, physically and mentally, for whatever life throws my way.
If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?
First off, there’d be no assault bike—because I enjoy breathing. Give me a run, power cleans, strict pull-ups, and sprinkle in a bench-press for good measure. Simple, sweaty, and no near-death pedalling required.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since starting CrossFit?
Confidence. I carry myself differently now—not just because I’m stronger, but because I’ve proven I can do hard things, day after day. That mindset shift is everything. As a woman in her 40s, we were often told that smaller is better. I’d argue that stronger is better.
When you’re not at the gym, what’s your favourite thing to do?
I’m usually managing my kids’ activities and supporting their passions—it’s like CrossFit, but with more snacks and driving. I love reading, being outdoors—especially near water—traveling when I can, baking, and listening to good music. Honestly, it’s the simple things that make life rich: fresh air, movement, a great playlist, melted butter with a swipe of jam on homemade bread, and a moment of peace.
What’s your favourite local Hamilton food spot?
Rapscallion (that whipped feta!) is a classic. But after a tough WOD, nothing beats the vibe at The Mule. Plus, let’s be honest, margaritas live there.
